malon
basics
Malon (Maron) is a character in the Legend of Zelda series, appearing in a few of the games and manga, most notably Ocarina of Time. She appears to be around the same age as Link. Malon lives with her father, Talon, and takes works at the ranch that the two run. In OoT, she says her mother died when she was young. She appears to be Hylian, due to her pointed ears, in all incarnations except Oracle of Seasons.
personality
Malon has a very bright and cheerful personality, which is certainly a refreshing thing to see in a Hyrule that's been taken over by evil, like in OoT. As a child, Malon is innocent and curious, but also responsible. She has to take care of the ranch in place of her forgetful father, and also take care of him as well. As an adult in OoT, she seems to have retained the sense of responsibilty, and continues to take care of the ranch after Talon has been kicked out. I kind of hate the word "spunky," but it certainly describes her. In the manga, she also seems to have quite the imagination; she daydreams about being rescued by a handsome prince. And she kicks Gerudo butt with a pitchfork!
appearance
Malon's attire is appropriate for working on a farm; it consists of a white dress, simple brown boots, and a yellow scarf held together by a clasp. Nintendo has stuck a Mario refererence in Malon's outfit: the clasp is shaped like Bowser! Oh, Nintendo. You and your shameless cameos. Anyway, the blue symbols on her dress are apparently the old Hylian characters for "Lon." As an adult, Malon has a purple skirt with a dark red apron, and wears a belt with what looks like the Triforce symbol on it.

- a Gossip Stone, Ocarina of Time
I love the interaction between Malon and the game series' hero, Link, especially in OoT, where they interact the most. Malon mistakes Link for a Kokiri at first, and gives him the nickname "Fairy Boy," which you have got to love :3. Seven years after their first meeting, Link saves the Lon Lon Ranch from Ingo, who is being controlled by Ganondorf, who remembers him as the "Fairy Boy."

I... think Malon and Link are a cute couple, at least in the OoT timeline. I can't say I ever get into "shipping" and I probably can't provide the greatest arguements, but I think Link/Malon is just plain cute. In the manga (though whether the manga is canon is debatable), the two seem to form a friendship and are able to team up against Ingo and Gerudo attackers. Malon also remembers and eventually recognizes Link after seven years when many have forgotten him. I think they get along well, and after OoT ends, Link is really only left with one friend his age after he returns to his childhood and lives out his life in that "timeline." Note that Malon seems to be the only plausible pair in OoT, Saria and the Kokiri remain as children, his relationship with Zelda is (probably) sadly impossible due to their respective duties, and as for Ruto... I don't need to go there. And hey, Malon wants to be "swept off her feet" knight in shining armor! Though, I'm not sure Link your typical knight. But whatever :)
talon
Nintendo loves their Mario references! Talon is Malon's father, who bears a resemblance to the Italian plumber. He's generally a bit lazy and forgetful, but good natured. It seems as if Malon is taking care of him instead of the other way around. She apparently "lets him have it" when he messes up.
marin
Marin is something like the "original" Malon. She appears in Link's Awakening as a girl, strangely similar to Zelda, who helps Link on his quest. Her character design is similar to Malon's, as you can see in the picture to the left, and she even lives with her father named "Tarin," who resembles Mario. Marin also enjoys singing, and plays the harp.
romani and cremia
In Majora's Mask, Malon's counterparts in Hyrule's parallel world, Termina, are the sisters Romani and Cremia. The two make use of Malon's two sprites from OoT. The sisters live at the Romani Ranch outside of Clock Town, where they take care of cows in order to sell milk in town. However, the two face problems when "they" (which are either Poes or aliens) come at night and abduct the cows. Romani is the younger sister, with a similar personality to Malon. She even gives Link a nickname. She's much more childish, however, and refers to herself in the third person. The older sister, Cremia, is very similar to the older Malon in OoT, namely being responsible and hardworking.
